A man was stabbed on a Winnipeg transit bus Tuesday after a passenger racially abused him.

Winnipeg police were called to the Osborne Street transit station for a report of a man who had been stabbed around 8:45 p.m.

The police provided emergency medical care to the victim, who was over 20 years old, including using a chest seal. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later upgraded to stable condition.

Police learned the victim was threatened and physically assaulted by the suspect, who used racial slurs before the attack.

The bus stopped and both got out, but the suspect ran away. He is described as a slim, white man aged 20-30.
