Man dies after apartment fire in Montreal

A 66-year-old man has died after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Montreal's La Petite Patrie district.

Montreal police said they received a call at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday from firefighters needing a vehicle at the scene of a fire on Avenue Christophe-Colombe near Belanger Street.

Montreal police spokeswoman Jeanne Drouin said: “Firefighters have brought the fire under control, which started in an apartment building.” “A 66-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being poisoned by smoke.”

Police confirmed he died of his injuries on Wednesday evening.

The building was evacuated, but residents were later allowed inside.
