Last chance talks to avoid strike at Laval University

Agreement negotiations will continue on Wednesday between Laval University's union and management in an effort to avert a strike that is set to begin Thursday evening.

The union, which covers 1,700 University of Quebec teachers, has announced a four-day strike on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday unless an agreement in principle is reached with management to renew the collective agreement.

It will receive a ten-day strike mandate, which will be implemented in due course.

Both management and the union said pay was the main point of contention as the standard clauses were largely settled after months of negotiations.

A mediator from the Ministry of Labor has been helping the parties since January.
