EMSB will suspend classes on April 8 due to the solar eclipse

The English Montreal School Board will cancel all day care, elementary and middle school classes on April 8 due to the solar eclipse.

The school board revised the school calendar for all elementary schools by moving the previously scheduled teaching day from March 22 to April 8.

March 15 ped day for all high schools will now be held on April 8.

EMSB says April 8 will be a regular school day for its Adult Education and Vocational Centers, as well as FACE School.

Experts say that looking directly at the sun during an eclipse can cause partial or complete loss of vision, especially in children. There are also concerns about road safety as thousands of children walk home in temporary darkness.

The eclipse is expected to be first visible in Mexico around 11:07 a.m. PDT, when the moon passes between Earth and the sun and casts a partial or total shadow.

The eclipse will then be visible in the United States before moving to southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, lasting about two hours, when many children in Canada are out of school. .

Lester B. The Pearson School Board says it has not yet decided whether to suspend classes for the day.

“We are considering various scenarios and will notify the community once a decision is made,” the school board said in a statement to CityNews. “Our primary goal is to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.”
