City council rejects changes to Calgary RV parking

Calgary City Council has defeated a proposal to allow year-round RV parking outside homes.

However, the proposal was recommended to go to the council as a matter that did not pass.

Currently, Calgarians are not allowed to park their campers in front of their vehicles for more than 36 hours.

If passed, Calgarians would be able to park their trailers from May to September.

The Community Development Committee says the results of a survey of more than 10,000 respondents were mixed.

More than half — 55 percent — support the idea, saying seasonal parking of cars, campers and trailers on frontage roads is a matter of convenience and property rights.

However, 45 percent said they were opposed, citing visual pollution and sanitation issues.
