Police said officers went to the 59-year-old man's home Tuesday morning to take him to the hospital for an involuntary evaluation.

When they arrived, police said a man opened the door holding a crowbar and appeared agitated.

Officers attempted to approach the man, who released a fire extinguisher and barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom.

When the police finally fired their weapons, the man left the room with a gun.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died from his injuries.
