A snowstorm is expected to hit Toronto ahead of Family Day over the long weekend, but warmer weather is expected next week.

The Greater Toronto Area is expected to see some heavy snowfall ahead of Family Day over the long weekend, although temperatures are warmer.

In an interview with Now Toronto, Geoff Coulson, a meteorologist with Environment Canada's preparedness warning, said the snow will begin Thursday afternoon and begin to thicken between 7 and 9 p.m. five to ten centimeters.

“It looks like the heaviest snow could fall anytime between one in the afternoon and six in the evening.” So there could be significant impacts during the Thursday evening rush hour. And then, as we get closer to the end of rush hour … That's when we see the snow taper off,” he said Wednesday.

He said drivers should be careful on their way home from work tomorrow evening.
