The suspect put the stolen items in the boy's backpack and fled on foot, police said.

Police found the couple in a back lane in the 300 block of Boyd Avenue around 9:35 p.m.

Officers said the man was “immediately inoperative” and after a short foot chase, they used a Taser on him.

Police said they found a CO2-powered handgun and a machete on the man.
