Toronto firefighters rescued two people from a two-alarm fire at a low-rise apartment building east of downtown Wednesday morning.

Toronto firefighters rescued two people from a two-alarm fire at a low-rise apartment building east of downtown Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the fire was under control and evacuated two residents from the upper unit via the stairs.

The building is located on Sherbourne Street, north of Carlton Street.

Both cats were saved during the operation.

Firefighters say there are no casualties so far.

TFS says cleanup efforts are ongoing and TTC shelter buses are on scene to help those affected.
