On Tuesday, Quebec Conservative Party leader Eric Duhaime said his party has no intention of theoretically merging with the Quebec Liberal Party, saying it is too “radicalized” on the left.

“The QLP looks more and more like the federalist Quebec Solidarity and I don't see how we can work together,” Duhaime told reporters.

On Monday, businessman and former Québécois candidate Nicolas Tetro said he was mulling the idea of running for the leadership of the provincial Liberals, saying he met with Duhaime to discuss an alliance between the two parties.

Duhaime acknowledged that historically, particularly under the leadership of Jean Charest, the Quebec Liberals could be perceived as right of centre.

“Having said that, I don't feel at the moment that the QLP wants to go back to being a party that defends individual liberties, civil rights or wants to reduce the size of government. On the contrary,” he said.
