Calgary Weather: Mid-week overnight wind chills between -20 and -30

A ridge of high pressure off the west coast turns cold air into Alberta. The absence of clouds will intensify this effect during the next two nights, as the outgoing radiation will be released more freely.

Typically, the low temperature in mid-February in Calgary is around -12 C, but Thursday and Friday mornings could be closer to -18 C, with wind chills as low as -23 C.

A low pressure system along the Alberta-Saskatchewan border will bring light and scattered waves to central and southern Alberta Wednesday afternoon.

With daytime highs between -6 C and -9 C over the next two days, icy parking lots and surfaces will remain mostly frozen unless de-icing agents are used.

Starting Friday, the classic southern Alberta freeze-thaw cycle should resume and continue into early next week.

Highway conditions are improving in central and southern Alberta. As of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, 511 Alberta reported decent driving conditions on most major highways in the region.
