A new EDI oriented track for students News

February 13, 2024

Several universities are offering a new way to engage students in the 2024 winter session for members of the student community who want to increase their knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

The Parcours Agir ensemble pour l'ÉDI (Working together for EDI track) is intended as a complement to existing university courses on social innovation, sustainable development and EDI. Students apply solutions for the employability of people who represent diversity in all its forms.

The course is open to students of all levels and programs and graduates are awarded several scholarships.

A project involving several partners

This initiative is implemented with the participation of the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE) of Quebec, which allocates USD 300,000 over 3 years.

Ensemble Inc. by HEC Montréal. has joined forces with the movement, its founders are 2 graduates of HEC Montreal and brings together more than 200 Quebec companies committed to diversity.

Partners for this project include the Quebec Inter-University Network for Inclusion of Equity Diversity (RIQEDI). In addition to being open to members of the HEC Montreal student community, the course is also offered at 2 other Quebec universities: Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) and Université de Sherbrooke.

Training and implementation of solutions

Each year, approximately 15 people from each of the partner universities, divided into 3 teams of 5 people, participate in the course. It is offered for 3 years, until May 2026.

Teams in each group first undergo training. This will introduce them not only to the basic concepts of EDI, but also to the realities of persons with disabilities, immigrants, indigenous peoples and the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Each team is paired with an organization that must develop a social innovation and then bring their ideas to life.

Organizations participating in the 2024-2025 cohort:

  • Tooth sizemarketing agency
  • Les Socialitescreative and strategic agency

The result of the classroom experience

The idea for this course came from a classroom activity with the Ensemble Inc movement during the Corporate Social Responsibility course at HEC Montreal in the summer of 2022. Students were asked to propose effective solutions to accelerate the employment of people representing diversity. all its forms. The best ideas, including ideas for the course, were selected for the design of the project.

HEC Montréal has taken several steps in recent years for greater equality, diversity and inclusion on its campus and in society at large. Among other things, in addition to adopting a policy on EDI in 2020, the School has developed a number of initiatives through an action plan.
