Chief Danny Smith provides new information on what happened in the North End over the weekend.

CTV News Winnipeg will cover the trial live.

The police gave the first information about the incident at the weekend.

Officials said they were called to the scene around 3:10 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of College Avenue for a report of a woman being held against her will.

The officers are believed to include several people, some of whom may be armed.

The tactical support team managed to get some people out of the building, including a woman who was being held against her will.

However, some did not go.

Law enforcement officers were at the scene for several hours. A complex incident team was launched that included crisis talks, a drone and a unified patrol.

Three police officers were shot dead during the clash. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
