Winnipeg Blue Bombers agree to LB Shayne Gothier on one-year contract – BGMSportsTrax

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and linebacker Shane Gauthier agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Monday. Gauthier was scheduled to become a free agent on Tuesday.

Shane Gauthier is five foot ten and weighs 232 pounds. The 31-year-old from Dolbo-Mistassini, Quebec, had six tackles and three sacks on special teams in six games for the Blue Bombers in 2023.

The Blue Bombers were drafted by Gauthier in the fourth round (28^th pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Gauthier had seven tackles and one forced fumble in nine games.

In seven seasons in Winnipeg, Gauthier had 49 tackles, 57 on special teams, two sacks and one forced fumble in 87 games. He is a member of the 2019 and 2021 Gray Cup championship teams.

Collegiately, Gauthier Laval (2012-15) had four seasons with 161 tackles (99 solo, 62 assists), 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, five pass breakups and two sacks played. Returned 28 yards on 33 plays for the Rouge et Or. He was a two-time RSEQ All-Star and earned U Sports second-team All-Canadian honors as a senior.
