The roof of the Kensington restaurant in northwest Calgary has caught fire

A fire destroyed a restaurant building in the Kensington neighborhood of northwest Calgary on Monday night.

Crews arrived around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of smoke and fire coming from the roof of a building at the corner of 10th Street and Kensington Road NW, officials said.

A second alarm was raised as the flames spread and the smoke billowed.

“Ladder trucks were used to safely gain access to the roof where firefighters were deployed and brought the fire under control,” the statement said.

No one was inside the building at the time and no one was injured. Fusion Sushi and Thai and Osteria Italian restaurants are on the property.

Crews remained at the scene throughout the night to prevent the fire from rekindling. A Calgary Fire Department investigator is investigating the cause of the fire.

Officials are asking anyone with video or photos of the fire, especially before emergency crews arrive, to email [email protected].
