The employees of the Seine River school division went on strike

The union representing the custodial staff of the Seine River School Division (SRSD) announced on Monday that it was going on strike.

The Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU) says it will cut all services from the school division while Local #143 contract negotiations are on the bargaining table.

The school division would see annual pay increases starting in 2021 under their latest proposal — 3 percent in 2021, 2 percent in 2022, 2 percent in 2023 and 2.5 percent in 2024 — as well as market adjustments for day time. Continuation of shift premium for keepers and evening custodians.

SRSD says some services may be affected during the strike. However, he noted that temporary workers have been contracted to fill vacancies.

The school district says it will continue to provide educational services throughout the strike.
