San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembayama made his first visit to the Toronto Raptors on TSN.

One of the NBA's most popular players will take on Victor Wambayama and the San Antonio Spurs (10-43) in their annual visit to the Toronto Raptors (19-34) at Scotiabank Arena on Monday night.

While Wembanyama has been able to produce impressive performances in the first 47 games of his NBA career, they have also come with significant growing pains.

You can watch the San Antonio Spurs vs. Toronto Raptors live on TSN1/4 starting at 7:00 PM and 4:00 PM, on the TSN app and on TSN.ca.

Heading into Monday night's game, the 20-year-old Wembanyama believes he is the frontrunner in the NBA Rookie of the Year race, which has turned the Oklahoma City Thunder native's Chet Holmgren into a two-man race with France's Le Chesnay. The 7-foot-4 Wembanyama is averaging 20.3 points on .464 shooting (.316 from three), 10.0 boards, 3.1 assists and a league-leading 3.0 blocks in 28.4 minutes a night. If you're a regular user of social media, this stat line won't come as a surprise, as your timeline is likely filled with Wemby highlights overnight. “Unicorn” gets thrown around a lot in professional sports, but it's an apt descriptor for Vembanyama. A person who looks good shouldn't play like that. After seeing so many tough and limited bigs come to the NBA over the years, it's hard to see Vembanyama working.

But Wembey is one man and Spurs are not a very good team. Vembanyama struggled down the stretch when he was guarded by bigger and more physical players who could force him into poor shot selection. He also dealt with a series of ankle problems in the run-up to Christmas. As impressive as Vembanyama has been, it's not enough to paper over the rest of the team, averaging 14.8 turnovers (fifth in the league), 109.3 offensive rating (fourth-worst) and 52.8 effective field goal percentage. (the fourth is the worst). No one was under any illusions that Spurs were in contention in Wembanyama's first season, but being so poor didn't seem to be on the cards either.

That means Monday's game is a win-win for the Raptors, who are coming off a 119-95 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. Kelly Olympique of Toronto, acquired at the deadline from the Utah Jazz, had 11 points and six boards on 4-10 shooting in 22 minutes of action. Heading into his first All-Star appearance this weekend in Indianapolis, Scotty Barnes led the offense with his fourth career triple-double, finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Raptors, who currently trail the Atlanta Hawks by five games for the Eastern Conference finals, host Pascal Siakam and the Indiana Pacers in a Game 8 Wednesday night.
