According to the Toronto Police Service, “Beginning February 19, 2024, the Toronto Police Service will begin implementing paid on-street parking on legal holidays in Toronto.”

“Historically, the Toronto Police Service's Parking Enforcement Unit has not operated paid on-street parking during these holidays, a decision based on past regulations and operational choices.”

The announcement says the reason for the change is “in response to the evolving needs of our growing city, where the demand for parking has increased significantly.”

The Toronto Police Service also adds another reason for on-street paid parking during holidays is “to address the growing competition for limited spaces and the need for efficient parking management.”

In case you're wondering where the money collected for on-street parking goes, the Toronto Police Service says, “On-street parking rates are monitored and collected by the City of Toronto.”

Street parking in Toronto just got a little more expensive.
