How to Grow a Calgary Carpet Juniper

Rich green mounds of juniper beauty barely grow ankle-deep for the perfect mountain ground cover. An excellent choice for erosion control on low-water, natural banks where monsoon runoff is a problem. The perfect greenery is nestled between stones or softens the top edge of a brick retaining wall. Perfect for adding color and style to barren rock lawns during the winter months. Junipers are always welcome in Japanese gardens or cut into creative bonsai shapes.

The carpet is juniper It is easy to grow a plant that can be planted in any season. It grows well in well-drained soil, but you should avoid planting them in wet soil. The plant needs deep and regular watering in the first season to establish a good root system.

General description

This low-growing ground cover juniper is very hardy and hardy and has excellent cold tolerance. The leaves are a very bright green compared to many other low-growing junipers. How to Grow a Sun-Blanked Calgary Carpet Juniper

A tall evergreen groundcover with a very low, spreading habit and attractive soft green foliage. Use on slopes, along walkways, borders or rock gardens to control ground cover or erosion. Covers the retaining walls beautifully. A very hardy landscape specimen that is resistant to mountain heat, cold and drought.

Light

Juniper prefers full sun (6+ hours), although young plants do best in partial shade.

Soil

Juniper is a very hardy shrub that grows well in a variety of soils. Clay is ideal, but sand or loam will also do well for this tree to thrive. Juniper tolerates even salty mineral soil.

Water

Water twice a week when newly planted, once a week after the first year of growth. Watering guidelines for these shrubs are deep soaking after planting and once every two weeks for the first year. A one-hour drip that slowly saturates the roots provides the new tree with proper water. Adjust watering according to rainfall. Older bushes rarely need additional watering.

Diseases / Insects

Juniper free – although Phomopsis has been observed in specimens stored in very wet conditions or poorly drained soils.

Temperature and humidity

Calgary carpet juniper can grow in a variety of climates, but it will die if exposed to temperatures below -30 degrees.

Fertilizer

Rich colors are produced by feeding with a 7-4-4 all-purpose food three times a year (March, July and October).

Cutting

Juniper plants require little pruning except for the removal of dead or diseased branches. The best time for cutting is the end of winter (January-March), when the flow of sap decreases in cold weather.
