Blumenort and Grunthal extended LUDs – Carillon

The Blumenort and Grunthal LUDs are expanding as the development affects the municipalities.

Blumenort currently has a population of 2,831 and has expanded its boundaries to the south by approximately 20 acres.

“As our community grows, the LUD boundaries will only be reached once this expansion is accepted and developed,” Kuhn said. Roberto Hiebert. “So there's been some new developments on the south side of our community, and with this development, we've had to expand the LUD boundary to bring it into the community.”

Business and commercial developments have recently been established along Friesen Avenue, and Youth for Christ saw a need in the community and opened its doors there. Another area developed by LUD is in Stony Creek, where high-end housing is being built with large homes and multi-family residences.

“The diversity of our growing LUDs is good,” Hiebert said.

Hiebert noted the strong commercial and business sector in the LUD, and its growth has created jobs, which in turn has expanded the housing base. He noted Blumenort's proximity to services in Steinbach, two major highways and Winnipeg make it an attractive location for many.

“With some of the services we have in our community, it's a good community to live in… our LUD has worked hard to keep the mill rate down significantly over the years, so our tax base is not as expensive as our next-door neighbors, so it's commercial development, residential, multi-family, will be attractive to people who want to set up shop and call it home.”

Gruntal

Grunthal has 2,105 people and has expanded its boundaries to the east by 98 acres.

Reeve Jim Funk, who lives in Gruntal and is a councilor for the ward, said housing development in Northwood last year created 10 or 11 new homes that were affordable for people.

“Most of the homes we build are starter homes that appeal to newcomers and young families,” he said.

He also noted that Grunthal has all the amenities you would find in a small town.

“We have everything you need in a small community. We have recreation, we have banks, we have a grocery store, we have a post office. We have almost everything you need in a small community.”
