A man has been charged in connection with a Georgetown house fire

Halton police have charged a man in connection with a fatal fire in Georgetown, Ont.

Last Wednesday, emergency crews were dispatched to a fully engulfed house in the Victoria Street area at around 5.20am.

According to the police, neighboring houses had to be evacuated as the fire started to spread.

As crews extinguished the fire, firefighters said they found a female resident dead at the scene.

Police have not released any information about the woman, but said the fire engulfed two semi-detached residences. Police said no one else was injured in the fire.

Christopher Dayfoot, 38, of Georgetown, was charged with arson with reckless disregard for human life.

The accusation was not tested in court.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
