4 charged after armed barricade incident in northeast Winnipeg

Winnipeg police say four people are facing charges following an armed standoff and barricade in Winnipeg's North End over the weekend.

WPS responded to a home on Boyd Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Friday after officers received a report of an armed robbery by three people.

During the robbery, the suspect allegedly fired a handgun and hit a man in his 40s. In addition, the suspects allegedly took a 25-year-old woman by force.

According to WPS, around 3 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to an apartment building at College Avenue and Charles Street for a report of a woman being held against her will. WPS later confirmed that it had learned that it was the missing woman on Friday.

Officers say there was a report of several people inside the suite with weapons.

Two suspects, a 46-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, left the apartment and were arrested by police officers.

The 25-year-old woman who was allegedly kidnapped also left the apartment and police confirmed she was not injured.

Police said two people remained inside the residence and refused to come out, prompting an armed barricade.

During the incident, the suspects shot at the police officers. Three officers were injured and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police said officers were on the scene for several hours before the two men were arrested.

WPS recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, a .22-gauge shotgun and ammunition at the scene.

Jeremy James Caseys, 43, has since been charged with aggravated assault, willful discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), willful disguise, breaking and entering and various firearms offenses. .

In addition, a 50-year-old man, a 46-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman are charged with drugs and firearms.
