The trade season has officially begun in the PWHL.

The first trade in league history was completed Sunday, when PWHL Boston sent Toronto-born defenseman Sophie Jacques to the PWHL in Minnesota in exchange for Kelowna, BC native Abby Cook and Finnish forward Suzanne Tapani.

Jaquez, 23, was the 10th overall pick in the PWHL's first draft and was signed to a three-year deal.

Cook, 25, signed a one-year deal with Minnesota as a free agent, while Tapani, 30, was a fifth-round draft pick and is on a two-year deal.

The league is expected to announce the official trade deadline later this week, but this first deal should further grease the wheels between now and the soon-to-be-announced deadline.

All deals must ensure that both teams meet the league's roster specifications. That will have to happen before Wednesday's games regarding his actual deal, which leaves Boston one player over the active roster limit and Minnesota one player under the limit.
