WINNIPEG – Police in Winnipeg say shots were fired during a dispute at an apartment building when several officers responded to a report of a man being held against his will.

None of the officers suffered life-threatening injuries in the Saturday morning incident on College Avenue, and police said two men in their 40s were arrested.

The Winnipeg Police Service released a statement saying officers were called to an apartment with several people with firearms.

They said members of the Tactical Support Team safely removed several people, including a female prisoner, but additional people, believed to be still armed, refused to leave the suite.

During the hours-long standoff, police said the suspect shot at police and hit three officers.

Members of the Major Crimes and Homicide Squad are continuing to investigate, and police say they will release more information as it becomes available.
