Morgan Rielly of the Toronto Maple Leafs requested a private hearing to cross-examine Ridley Greig.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been offered a personal hearing to investigate Ottawa Senators forward Ridley Greig, NHL player safety announced Sunday.

A hearing time and date have yet to be determined, though the Maple Leafs will host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

With the Maple Leafs scoring late in the third period of Saturday's contest, Greig was left alone in an empty Toronto net and fired just before the crease to seal a 5-3 victory.

Rielly took exception to Greig's shot and leveled it on the board, sparking the rally.

Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe leans on Rielly after the game.

“I thought it was appropriate,” Keefe said later, adding, “Our players have a right to respond.”

“What their guy did there at the end was stupid,” Leafs goaltender Martin Jones said of Greig's shot.

“You never know what (Greig) is going to do. I loved it, but if we were on the other side of it, we wouldn't have liked it either. But I didn't like the revenge, but I understand their frustration. It's over and I think it was fun.” , Senators forward Josh Norris said.

Rielly has never been shutout in his 11-season NHL career and leads Maple Leaf defensemen with seven goals and 43 points in 50 games.

The 6-foot-1 defenseman played in his first NHL All-Star Game in early February.
