At least 17 police vehicles, including a police armored tactical vehicle and heavily armed officers, could be seen outside the Stratford Hall apartment complex on Charles Street and College Avenue early Saturday morning.

At 9 a.m., a CBC videographer heard gunshots at the scene. Police were also heard telling the man inside the building to come out.

A police spokesperson told CBC shortly thereafter that police had been at the scene since 3 a.m. and were trying to arrest the man peacefully.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) just before 10 a.m., police asked people to avoid the area.

No other details were immediately available.
