The fans responded to Morgan Rielly's shot into the Sens forward's empty net by Ridley Greig.

Morgan Rielly was the highlight of Ridley Greig's last-second empty-netter in the Ontario battle between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs.

With less than ten seconds left on the clock, Sens forward Ridley Greig scoops up a loose puck and skates toward the unguarded Leafs net. He pucked in the puck and hit the game-winner to seal the victory for the Sens.

Morgan Rielly underestimated Greig's choice and attacked Greig, which resulted in Greig falling to the ice and crushing the back of his head.

Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on Morgan Rielly's hit on Ridley Greig. One fan said:

“That's the pathetic culture in Toronto. Learn to drop the gloves. Captain?”

An official quickly intervened before several Senators and Leafs players entered, but a large brawl ensued.

Morgan Rielly was assessed a 5-minute major and game foul for a hit on Ridley Greig. He will have a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety and face a suspension for his actions.

Morgan Rielly and the Leafs couldn't beat the struggling Sens

Auston Matthews opened the scoring for the Leafs with an assist from Mitch Marner 3:45 into the first period. It was Matthew's 42nd goal of the season.

The Sens responded on a Claude Giroux goal at 17:53 when the veteran scored his 16th goal of the season.

Forward Vladimir Tarasenko picked off Shane Pinto's pass early in the second period for his 14th of the season. Matthew Nice tied the score for the Leafs off another assist from Mitch Marner.

Shane Pinto and Josh Norris scored the third and fourth goals of the game for the Senators, ending the second period 4-2 in favor of the home team.

Max Domi scored his fifth goal of the third period to put Toronto within one goal of tying the game, 4-3 on an assist from Morgan Rielly.

With the Toronto net empty in the closing minutes, Ridley Greig scored an empty net goal that was picked off by Morgan Rielly to give the Ottawa Senators their 10th win of the season, 5-3.

The Ottawa Senators won the Ontario H2H battle against the Maple Leafs with a 3-1 record in the regular season. This could be the last meeting between the two teams this season, with the Sens currently out of the playoff picture.

The Toronto Maple Leafs next face the St. Louis Blues on February 13 after a two-day break.
