Second Mastro in Calgary; Two in the overall standings of the World Cup

The final snowboard halfpipe competition of the 2023-24 season took place on a chilly Saturday night at Snow Rodeo in Calgary, Canada. Maddie Mastro finished second, his fourth podium of the season out of five.

With the overall World Cup titles on the line and heavy hitters like Australia's Scotty James not competing, the athletes had a great and exciting end to the season. Sonora Alba was the first to make the Hydro Flask USA snowboard team, finishing fourth at the Junior Olympics. Alba put down a first run in style, clocking 64.75 in her best run of the night to finish fifth in her career at the world championships.

Next up was rookie Bee Kim, who sits an impressive second in the overall World Cup standings and is looking to build on his first season. After a disappointing first two runs, Kim reached her third and final run to maintain her position overall. Two-time Olympian Mastro, who finished third in the mammoth and third behind teammate Kim in the World Cup standings, came out strong with a clean first run that put her in a comfortable second place with an 83.50. Mastro was briefly knocked down from the podium by teammate Kim, who showed veteran-level composure to stop her third and final run, but Mastro responded with the first and only double cork of the night on the women's side and was awarded by the judges. Scored 88.25 points to secure second place.

On the men's side, newcomer Alessandro Barbieri bounced back in his first career World Cup finals, landing a 1440 on the final stroke of his second run and making a statement to a frenzied crowd at the bottom of the pipe to finish seventh. Barbieri was joined by teammate Joey Okesson, who qualified for the final after consistently landing on the qualification bubble for most of the season. Okesson was determined to show off his fancy bag and didn't disappoint, coming up big with three consecutive double corks in his first run. Barely missing the final shot in both of his first two runs, Okesson ended the season on a high note, putting in one of the most stylish runs of the night to finish eighth overall.

The Hydro Flask USA Women's Snowboard Team finished the World Cup season with a two-place finish in the overall standings of the World Cup Half Team, with Mastro in second and Kim in third. Japan's Mitsuki Oni won the Crystal Globe overall semi-pip for the second year in a row.

Japan's Ruka Hirano ended his dominant season as the men's Crystal Globe winner, one point clear of Australian teammate Valentino Guseli in second and Scotty James in third. Chase Josie was the Hydro Flask USA Snowboard Team's top finisher in the 2023-24 season, placing seventh overall.

The USA Hydro Flask Snowboard Halfpipe Team will take a well-deserved break from competition to focus on recovery ahead of upcoming team training sessions.
