Rest Senators hold off Leafs 5-3 – Winnipeg Free Press

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators returned from a 10-day layoff with a 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Led by Shane Pinto, who had one goal and two assists, the Senators (21-25-2) also got goals from Claude Giroux, Vladimir Tarasenko, Josh Norris and Ridley Greig. Joonas Korpisalo made 32 saves.

Auston Matthews, Matthew Nice and Max Domi scored for the Leafs (26-15-8). Martin Jones stopped 28 shots.

Trailing 4-2 to start the third period, the Leafs made it a one-goal game with 5:12 left. Greig added the free throw with 5.1 seconds left. Morgan Reilly excelled at Greig's shot into an empty net and checked Greig's high level.

Ottawa took a 2-1 lead when Tarasenko came in and struck out Jones, but Nice sent Mitch Marner past Korpisalo despite Toronto's Jacob Chychrun tying it up.

Ottawa scored two more goals to end the period 4-2.

Pinto teed up Parker Kelly for his third of the season, and Norris made it 4-2 with a superb solo effort that finished with a shot into the top corner. It was Norris' first goal in 15 games.

Toronto opened the scoring at 3:45 when Marner found Matthews for his 42nd of the season.

The Leafs took a 2-0 lead eight minutes in, but on review the goal was disallowed for offside.

Ottawa tied the game at 1-1 thanks to a 3-on-1 turnover and Giroud took a rebound from Mathieu Joseph and fired a shot over Jones.

The Senators take the season series 3-1-0.
