Montreal Restaurant Guide: Pichai

Pichai

More than just a special Thai place, Pichai has established itself as one of the city's best restaurants. Building on the silky curries and mango sticky rice that made his sister restaurant Pumpui famous, Chef Jesse Grasso's food is diverse, inventive and more representative of the cuisine you'd find in northern Thailand. Spring-fried fish balls in a sweet chili sauce are great, like the Laab Ped, as is a delicious salad of duck and duck hearts, but a trip to Pichai isn't complete without sampling a few seasonal specials. From Japanese squid served with a strong dipping sauce of lime, coriander and pickled garlic, Nam Jim Talai, to grilled veal heart flavored with aromatic lemongrass, the dish is powerfully aromatic, unapologetically spicy and utterly delicious.
