Hitmen top Tigers, 6-2 – OurSports Central

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen played the first of two home games this weekend as they welcomed the Central Division leaders Medicine Hat Tigers to the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary dominated, winning 6-2.


Medicine Hat will be honored for the first time by Shane Smith. Calgary scored a goal by Wyatt Pisarczyk to tie the game just before the halfway point of the period. Ben Kindel adds a shorthand report of the Calgary offense.

The second period saw Carson Vetch's 19th of the season, making it 3-1 Calgary. Carter Yakemchuk scored his 24th goal on the power play to extend Calgary's lead to three. With this goal, Yakemchuk tied Jake Bean for the Hitman record for most goals scored by a defenseman in a season.

Medicine Hat was shut out until the third period when Rhett Parsons was able to strike out Ethan Buenaventura. It would be the last goal for the visitors as David Adaszynski and Oliver Tulk scored 30 seconds apart to make the final score 6-2.

Calgary is now one game back in the playoff picture, tied with the Lethbridge Hurricanes for seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary returns to the Scotiabank Saddledome tomorrow, Saturday, February 10, to kick off against the Moose Jaw Warriors at 2:00 p.m. Saturday is the Every Child Matters game presented by Siksika Health Services in partnership with the Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary, the Blackfoot Confederation, First Nations Health Consortium and Siksika Family Services. Highlights include local dancers and drummers, traditional Blackfoot food, and a second halftime round of dancing. Hitmen players will also wear orange “Every Child Matters” jerseys.
