Danjinu's gold led Canada's three-medal day at the Short Track World Cup

William Danjinu won gold as part of a three-medal day for Canada at the Short Track World Cup on Saturday.

The Montreal native won the men's 1,500 meters in two minutes, 11.460 seconds. It was Danjinu's third gold medal this season.

“I feel really good and I'm happy to be back on the podium. It was a bit of a surprise because I didn't feel my legs in the previous races,” Danjinu said. “I'm delighted with the result and to stay in contention for the Crystal Globe.”

Belgium's Stijn Desmet (2:11.711) and South Korea's Kim Gun-woo (2:11.785) took silver and bronze, respectively.

Canada's other two medals are in the men's 1,000.

Sherbrooke's Felix Roussel stopped the clock in 1:26.482 to take silver. Also, Stephen DuBois of Terrebonne took bronze with a time of 1:26.559.

South Korean Park Ji-won took the gold with a time of 1:26.406.

“It was a big day for me, as the rounds went by I felt more confident and my legs were better,” Roussel said. “I'm proud of the medal and I'm proud to have won one in each distance this season, but what I remember most is that I learned a lot about myself after competing against two of the best skaters in the world.

“It motivates me to see what the future holds for gold, but I feel rewarded for my efforts in the last few months since the World Championships in Asia.”
