Calgary Winter Festival is a Lunar New Year celebration

Calgarians ring in the Lunar New Year with events happening around town on Saturday.

The Bright Lights Winterfest-Lunar New Year fireworks display kicks off the Year of the Dragon with indoor and outdoor displays, including the Festival of Lights.

It starts at 4:30 and continues until 7:30 tonight at the Westgate Community Hall, where there will be a festival of lights and several performances both indoors and outdoors. There will also be horse drawn carriages, crafts and fireworks.

The event is a partnership between the Alberta Chinese Cultural Association Northwest and the Korean Women's Association of Calgary.

The Chinese Cultural Center will host New Year celebrations on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At 1:00 p.m., a dragon and lion dance will be held on the street near the cultural center

There will be several performances from dance schools, academies and community associations.
