Winnipeg police make eight arrests in retail theft – Winnipeg

As part of their retail theft initiative, the Winnipeg Police Department made several arrests this week in connection with a theft at a local mall.

Eight adults were arrested and charged with the theft of approximately $3,000 worth of merchandise on Feb. 8, police said. They said the incident happened at the Sterling Lyon Park Mall.

The initiative, launched in November last year, aims to eliminate shoplifting, threats to staff and the public, and financial loss to retail outlets.

Hundreds of people have been arrested since the initiative began. In a media release in December, Winnipeg police said officers were collecting data to determine where to put preventative measures.
