Toronto and the GTA

Toronto and the GTA may be poised to kick off the weekend with record temperatures.

“We're seeing temperatures as high as 12°C in Toronto and the GTA,” Environment Canada weather preparedness meteorologist Peter Kimball told Curiocity.

In fact, the current record is 86 years.

“The record for February 9 was 10.6°C at Pearson Airport in 1938, and the record for downtown Toronto was 11.1°C. Either way, it looks like we're about to break the heat record. The weather in February is perfect.”

Records from other parts of Ontario

Toronto and the GTA aren't the only parts of Ontario that can break records, according to Kimball.

“In southern Ontario, Windsor could be very close to breaking the record. The highest temperature in Windsor today is 16°C, and the record was 16.1°C set in 1900, so they will be very close to matching or breaking that record.”

Londoners will be much warmer than usual on February 9, poised to blow their current record out of the water.

“London's record is 9.8C in 2001, but today it's 14C. there,” Kimball said.

Cooler temperatures are ahead

Maybe you shouldn't too accustomed to warm weather. Environment Canada says it's not here to stay.

“This pattern will not continue throughout February, with cooler temperatures and normal or seasonal temperatures expected starting Sunday next week,” Kimball said.

“During that week we may even have a day or two of below normal temperatures, especially next Saturday the 17th. Winter is not over yet.”

We may have some cold days, but no snow in the near future.

“The good news is that there will be no heavy snowfall. Bad news if you want snow this winter.

Enjoy the warm weather and record temperatures while you can, Toronto!
