Update: Police have confirmed the alleged scammer in Burlington works at a Toronto hospital

Update and Editor's Note: Police in Halton have confirmed that a man who has been going door-to-door asking for donations to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children does indeed work for them.

Police contacted inhalton.com shortly after the original story was published.

“We have been informed by detectives that they believe the suspect in this media release works for SickKids. We have removed it from our website.”

Inhalton.com decided to keep the story, but remove the photos of the person originally identified. This will let people who have already seen the story know the fix.

Here's the original story:

Halton Police are warning Burlington residents and the entire region about door-to-door donation scams.

So far, it has been confirmed in Burlington that police say the male suspect went to several homes asking for monetary donations for the SickKids Foundation.

The suspect wore a badge to identify himself as an advocate for sick children (SickKids) while soliciting donations on behalf of the organization.

“Police confirmed with SickKids that the suspect was not employed by them and that the foundation did not have representatives in the area at the time,” a police spokesman said.

If you see this person, the public is urged not to confront him or give money, and to contact the police. If this suspect has visited your residence before, the police will also want to speak with you.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 3rd District Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2316.
