The Catholic Central soccer player plays for the University of Calgary

Amantea was quite successful in her high school career. He was named a Southern Alberta High School Football League All-Star in 2022 and 2023. He was also named the 2023 CCH Player of the Year and a member of Team Alberta in 2022 and 2023.

Amantea will attend the U of C in the business program. He said his intention was to attend a Calgary high school, regardless of whether he played football or not.

He said, “Besides all the programs and the school, the main decision was the city. I like Calgary and I had plans to move there, so when I got the offer to Calgary, I knew what I was going to do.”

Dustin Ledsham is one of CCH's football coaches. According to him, this is a bittersweet announcement.

“Losing a player like that is tough, big change on the pitch, big impact, but we're all happy for him,” Ledsham said.

He continued, “At the end of the day, that's our goal, to get kids to play after high school, so it's great to see players like Ben go on and do well after high school. I hope our future players come in and look at Ben and see that it's possible for them too.”

Amantea will take the field in Calgary in the spring.
