A woman suffered life-changing injuries in a dog attack in Toronto's west end

Police have issued a public safety alert after a dog attack in the Rexdale neighborhood left a woman with “life-changing” injuries.

Police said the victim was waiting at a bus stop near Martin Grove Road and John Garland Boulevard around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when his two dogs got out without their owners present.

According to the police, the dogs then started attacking the woman.

The woman tried to defend herself with her shopping cart, but the dogs were able to drag her to the ground and continue the attack, police said.

The woman eventually sought refuge in a passerby's car and was eventually taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.

Meanwhile, police said another passerby followed the dogs and witnessed them attacking a nearby bicyclist.

According to police, the dogs tried to attack a resident in his yard and a TTC Wheel-trans operator who managed to close the doors in time.

It is not known how injured the cyclist was.

Police have released a photo of the dogs and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“Due to public safety concerns, investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the dogs and their owner,” police said in a statement.

Both dogs are described as black and white in color. Police say they may be Pit Bull Terriers or a similar breed.
