A Burlington man is wanted for posing as an employee of SickKids

Halton police are searching for a man suspected of knocking on doors in Burlington, pretending to be an employee of SickKids and asking for cash.

Police say a man has been entering several residences in the city wearing a fake SickKids logo.

Investigators confirmed with SickKids that the man did not work for them and that the foundation did not have representatives in the area at the time, police said.

On Friday, police released photos of the suspect, who is described as a 22- to 27-year-old man, 5 feet tall, with brown skin. He was last seen wearing glasses, a gray sweater, gray pants, and a black coat-style coat, holding a table with a black box in his hand.

Police say the suspect verbally identified himself as “Lewis.”

“If it looks suspicious, members of the public are urged not to confront him or give him money,” police said, noting that they should contact them instead.

Anyone who had previous contact with the suspect is urged to contact investigators at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.

In a separate case, Toronto police on Thursday arrested a man accused of going door-to-door downtown last November as a fake employee of the SickKids Foundation.

Police believe the suspect, who was equipped with a fake badge posing as a bouncer, would become “aggressive and physically threatening” when confronted by those who answered his door.

The suspect faces more than a dozen charges, including four counts of impersonation to obtain an advantage and three counts of attempted fraud under $5,000.
