2 Lethbridge drivers charged in fatal crashes

A Lethbridge driver is facing a number of charges in connection with two crashes that resulted in serious injuries to other people.

Lethbridge Police say drivers were involved in two separate crashes in early January.

On January 4 at 5:27 p.m., police were called to the intersection of 2A North Avenue and North 10th Street.

Officials say a 39-year-old woman was crossing the road when she was struck by an eastbound Honda Civic.

“The victim was transported to a Calgary hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He currently remains in Calgary and is recovering from his injuries,” police said in a press release.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, was charged with careless driving.

The second crash happened at 8:16 a.m. on Jan. 9, officials said.

Police were called to the intersection of North 13th Street and North 40th Avenue for a two-vehicle crash.

“Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on North 13th Street collided with a Honda Civic traveling eastbound on North 40th Avenue,” police said in a news release.

“The two occupants of the Civic, a 39-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Excessive speed is believed to be the cause of the accident.

The driver of the truck, a 16-year-old boy, has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving and causing bodily harm.

The accused, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is expected to appear in court on March 16.
