Winnipeg Streets Salted, Sand After Snow, Maintenance Manager Says – Winnipeg

Although Winnipeg didn't get as much snow overnight as it did in other parts of the province, city workers are still busy clearing the city's streets.

Michael Cantor, the city's manager of street maintenance, told 680 CJOB Start On Friday morning, there were 40-50 vehicles on the road from First and Second streets.

“Most of it is salt and sand,” Cantor said. “Some of the streets will be plowed in difficult areas, but this is mainly an ice control operation on the streets.

“On the sidewalks and roads, because of the snow, we're going to have to go to them and do repairs all over the network.”

Cantor said the sidewalks will also be sanded as soon as possible.

“Due to the snow we have, it is very reasonable to go and plow them first, then plow them and sprinkle sand. The plan is to close all sidewalks (Friday) and the weekend and sand and plow as needed.”
