The US military has launched new airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, officials said on Friday.

US forces on Thursday destroyed four drones carrying explosives and seven mobile anti-ship cruise missiles that could have targeted ships in the Red Sea, the US military's Central Command said.

“They posed a direct threat to US Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region,” Central Command said. “These actions protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safe and secure for U.S. Navy and merchant ships.”

The Houthis denied the loss.
