The suspect, who posed as a SickKids employee, was charged

In November, a man who went door-to-door as a fake SickKids employee was arrested.

The suspect, identified as Kenneth Gobin, 34, of Vaughan, has been charged with fraud, according to a police news release Thursday.

Police say that since November 2023, they have received several reports of a man knocking on doors in the city center asking for money on behalf of a charity.

Armed with a false badge identifying himself as a canvasser, police said the suspect would become “aggressive and physically threatening” when confronted by those who answered the door for him.

Investigators began looking into the alleged scam in January and last week released surveillance video of the suspect in an effort to identify and locate him.

On February 6, Gobin was arrested and charged with fraud.

He was charged with four counts of impersonation for advantage, three counts of fraud under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and four counts of probation violation.

The police did not disclose the amount of money allegedly obtained through fraud.

Gobin was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Wednesday. The charges in court have not been proven.

Investigators believe there are additional victims and police are asking anyone with information about the scam to contact them anonymously at 416-808-5100 or Crime Stoppers.
