The sentencing of a man accused of killing an Alberta Uber driver has taken two weeks

Robert Dagno, the third member of a trio of robberies that began in Calgary and ended four years ago on a remote country road near Springbank Airport, had his sentencing postponed Wednesday in Calgary Court of King's Bench.

Dyno was convicted on January 24 after an original manslaughter charge was reduced.

Uber driver Kasif Hirani was stabbed to death on the morning of December 29, 2019, before being driven from his Calgary residence in his car and left in a snow pit near Springbank Airport.

When the sun rose that morning, Daryl Johannesen was walking his two yellow labs along the road near the airport when he saw Virani's body in the snow. At first he thought it might be a moose or deer carcass.

Last month, Justice Eleanor Funk said everything about Robert Dainno was consistent with someone who not only robbed someone, but also killed him.

During Dayno's trial, the court heard he stabbed Hirani 30 times.

Crown prosecutor Britta Christensen, who asked for the manslaughter charge to be reduced last year, said outside the courtroom Wednesday that she needed more time to prepare her case for the sentencing hearing.

The two star witnesses in Dyno's case, Trista Tinkler and Andrew Crystal, were previously convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six and eight years, respectively. Crystal said it was Dyno who stabbed the victim.

Dyno's sentencing hearing is now set for February 23.
