Montreal Alouettes release veteran defensive lineman Sewell – CFL

MONTREAL – Almondo Sewell hit the free agent market a little early.

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that the veteran defensive lineman has granted his release request.

CFL free agency begins Tuesday at noon ET.

Sewell, 37, had 14 tackles and a sack in 16 regular-season games last season and helped Montreal win the Gray Cup.

The six-foot-four, 288-pound All-American spent three seasons with Montreal (2021-23) after nine campaigns with the Edmonton Elks (2011-19).

Sewell played in 185 career regular season games, recording 334 tackles and 69 sacks. He played on two Gray Cup winning teams (with Edmonton in 2015) and was named a six-time CFL All-Star.
