Many of the biggest names at CTV National News have been let go from their recent jobs at Bell Media

Canadian viewers will find some familiar faces missing from CTV National News, after the latest layoffs at Bell Media forced out well-known journalists.

BCE Inc. President and CEO Mirko Bibic announced in an open letter Thursday that 4,800 jobs (9% of Bell's total workforce) will be cut and the company will sell 45 of its radio stations.

“Restructuring decisions are very difficult for all of us because they affect the people we work for and care about. We know these decisions are difficult for those who have left Bell,” he wrote.

Sources in the CTV newsroom confirmed with the Daily Hive that several key CTV National News reporters have been fired by Bell Media.

CTV National's Alberta bureau chief Bill Fortier, Montreal reporter Vanessa Lee and Winnipeg bureau chief Jill Mayshon have all been fired, sources said.

The Daily Hive has reached out to Bell Media for confirmation and comment.

The three reporters did not show this change on their X accounts.

This comes less than a year after Bell Media's latest round of 1,300 job cuts in June 2023.

This round of layoffs cut many prominent CTV National reporters and producers, including Glenn McGregor, Daniele Hamajian, Tom Walters and Rosa Hwang.

Canadians have taken to social media to express their dismay at the latest round of layoffs at Bell Media.

CTV's noon and weekend news shows in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver were also shut down as part of the shakeup.

Bibich explained that the company's operating environment has become more complex and it faces regulatory challenges in a tough economy.

Of the 45 radio stations, 21 are in BC, 12 in Ontario, seven in Quebec, and five in Atlantic Canada. A full list of them can be found here.
