Calgary police officer charged with sexual assault: ASIRT

A Calgary police officer has been charged with sexual assault.

Cst. Brandon Kahn worked in the position for five years, but was let go in October after the Calgary Police Service (CPS) was made aware of the investigation.

While the investigation has been ongoing for months, the charges were laid Wednesday as Alberta's Serious Incident Response Teams (ASIRT) had to determine whether or not the evidence met the prosecution standard.

CPS says the accused and the victim did not meet while the police officer was on duty.

He is currently under probation and is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.

The CPS says it is aware of serious allegations of this nature, even when off-duty, about the behavior of military personnel that can affect public trust and confidence.
