A teenager has been charged with shoplifting at a Calgary mall

Calgary police have charged a man and a teenager for stealing winter coats from a Hudson's Bay department store in the city's mall.

Investigators say that on Tuesday, January 23, around 5:00 p.m., a man and a teenage boy entered The Bay at Chinook Mall on Macleod Trail SW, stole two premium winter jackets and left the store.

When security followed them, police say the man threatened officers with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Store employees contacted the police and the suspects' stolen items were found nearby.

Twenty-year-old Bobby Burns has been charged with aggravated assault, theft under $5,000 and carrying a concealed weapon, according to police.

A 16-year-old boy is also charged with theft under $5,000. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both men will appear in court on Tuesday, March 5.
