WINNIPEG – National Weather Service – As of 5:10 a.m. CST, Winnipeg will see a slight +1°C and light snow, signaling the arrival of a Colorado low that will affect the area. A barometer reading of 99.6 and falling indicates the system's influence with 100% humidity and 14 km/h northeasterly winds.

Residents should take note of a special weather statement for a variety of weather conditions to expect through Friday morning.

Forecast and expected conditions

A Colorado low will bring a significant change from the recent mild temperatures, bringing a mix of precipitation to southern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan. Areas of southeast Saskatchewan, southwest Manitoba and through the Interlake can expect continued snow today, with total accumulations expected to be 4 to 8 cm by Thursday evening.

The Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba will see rain and snow in the morning, changing to snow as the day progresses. The shift is due to the rain-snow line moving eastward, with snow likely to persist into Friday morning. During the transition period, freezing rain may fall and roads and sidewalks may become slippery. 5 to 10 mm of rain is possible in southeastern Manitoba today, with snow accumulations of 2 to 6 cm.

Temperature trends and detailed forecasts

Temperatures are forecast to drop this coming weekend and into next week, which will still be cooler but above seasonal normals. Today, Winnipeg should experience rain and snow during the day, with a chance of rain in the afternoon. The wind will shift to the north, increasing to 30 km/h during the day, with gusts up to 50, and the temperature will drop to -1°C during the day.

Snow is expected tonight, with a chance of freezing rain and snow showers later in the evening. Forecast snow amounts of 2 to 4 cm, north winds of 40 km/h, gusts to 60, bringing lows to -10°C, and wind chill factors of -9 this evening, overnight – down to 20.

Light snow on Friday, with a northwest wind around 30 km/h, with gusts as high as 50, with a high of -8°C and a wind chill of -20. It is expected to be cloudy overnight with a low of -12°C.
