Two kindergartens were evacuated after a gas leak on Montreal's south shore

Two kindergartens were evacuated after an explosion on Montreal's South Shore caused two cars to burst into flames after a gas leak.

According to Longueuil firefighters, an excavator and utility van caught fire and water mains were damaged.

Longueuil police (SPAL) said the fire broke out at 9:55 a.m. at Boulevard Cure-Poirier West and Rue Cartier.

Children attending the kindergartens Pierrot La Lune and Mon empreinte à moi have been transferred.

Police say none of the approximately 110 children and 30 residents were injured.

Police are advising residents to avoid the area and any parents with information can call SPAL at 450-463-7111.
